  Mary Heebner

works | pressexhibition | bio
Central to Mary Heebner's oeuvre is her interest in the spiritual qualities of the natural world. Integrating concepts of archaeology, history, and nature, Heebner's inquisitive work is drawn from her travels throughout the world. Skilled at the art of papermaking, Heebner incorporates papers, powdered pigments, and "anything that dissolves in water" into her mixed media pieces, combining her interpretation of landforms and maps, or antiquities with the human form in order to create sensually abstract compositions. Mary Heebner has an M.F.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara and has distinguished herself as both an abstract painter and book artist, with pieces held in the J.P. Getty Research Center, The New York Public Library, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., UCLA, Harvard University, and the University of Chicago among others.
