Peter Alexander was born in Los Angeles in 1939. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California, Los Angeles. After initially working as an architect, he rose to prominence in the late 1960s with translucent resin sculptures. He also produced paintings, including a series that depicts luminous aerial views of the city lights stretching across the Los Angeles basin. He is a member of the Light and Space artistic movement in Southern California.
