Spring heralds a solo installation of new and recent painting of Berlin based artist Matthias Reinmuth to theThomas Lavin Showroom featuring both large and medium format paintings from the artist’s Chromatic Rhapsody series. Advancing the artist's well-developed craft that combines controlled chance and movement, Reinmuth seeks to create a series of paintings that share resonances and interweave, vibrate and hum with each other in more intentional and structured ways. In his words, “My pictures are predominately painted in daylight, but their entire narrative only unfolds with the changes in light incidences from one hour to the next, from morning to evening.” Each of the works in the suite evolve harmonies of colors that softly shift like night sky moves into morning and later full daylight.
Inspired in part by his several trips to Los Angeles, Reinmuth states, “there are these insanely great clear colors in the sky here. The light is sensational! This has a lot to do with the sea and the light of the sun which is thrown from the Pacific to the land and together with the fine dust in the air the sunsets over the Pacific really glow in all its red tones.”
